Sweet Memories Vintage Tees donates $3291.32 to Akron Children's Hospital MV NICU

One year ago, today, marks the creation of Sweet Memories Vintage Tees. Prior to the mass shutdown caused by the pandemic, Good Humor Ice Cream was approaching their celebratory year of reaching their 100-year anniversary in which they were founded in Youngstown, OH. .

2020 was not the ideal year for the birth of "Sweet Memories Vintage Tees" and founder, Linda Barton, claims the year that was coined as "disastrous", turned into the start of a new mission that strives on expanding more nostalgic brands that can impact its community.

The SMVT designs are inspired by archives and style assets of the licensed brands. They are recreated and sent for trademark approval by graphic designer Abbey Scoville, alumni of Youngstown State University and founder, Linda Barton.

Inspired by the words of Winston Churchill, "You make a living by what you get, but you make a life by what you give." Barton contacted the Akron Children's Hospital Mahoning Valley with a donation plan that give back 20% of each shirt sold would go back to the Hospital, Specifically the NICU Clinic. Linda Barton's daughter was admitted to Akron's Children's Hospital as a child. "Akron's Children's Hospital saved my daughter's life and that hospital is filled with the most compassionate people. I can't say enough great things about them."

The apparel launch that was first featured in the lobby at ACHMV. Good Humor™ donated two pallets of ice cream bars to give to the staff and kids at ACHMV.  Good Humor™ was founded in Youngstown, 1920.

Since the inception of what was just a "Good Humor™ Anniversary novelty tee" there has been a flood of iconic brands seeking to be featured in the SMVT apparel line. Barton states, "Our 2021 outlook is positive, our goal is to raise $40,000 using the iconic brands such as Dum-Dums® founded in Akron, Tootsie Roll®, PEZ®, Sweethearts®, NECCO® and there are over 24 brands that are still in production, such as Smarties®, BOSCO®, Dubble Bubble to name a few of the officially licensed apparel lines that we will be rolling out in 2021. 20% benefiting Akron Children's NICU."

SMVT believes that they have an obligation to educate and provide opportunities for people of the community to not just buy a t-shirt but support a cause in the process. Their goals are to triple the donation to the Akron Children's Hospital, increase online sales, partner with more local stores to bring to life to the nostalgic brands that so many adore.
